NOMINATIONS FOR SCHC BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The Sonoma County Horse Council (“SCHC”) is accepting nominations for its Board of Directors.

The Board of Directors is tasked with adopting sound, ethical, and legal governance and financial management policies that ensure the SCHC’s sustainable future and ability to advance its mission. 

Nominees must be SCHC members, residents of California and over the age of 18. You may nominate yourself or someone else; however, if nominating someone else, please include that person’s consent to the nomination. The SCHC Governance Committee will review the nominations and prepare a slate of candidates for the board of directors. Being nominated does not guarantee placement on the slate of candidates. SCHC members will elect directors from the slate of candidates by written ballot at the SCHC general meeting in February 2019.

Equine Herpes Myeloencephalopathy (EHM) Updates: 
New San Mateo County Quarantine 
November 7, 2018: A 24 year old Arabian mare, originating from a San Mateo 
County facility, displaying neurologic signs has been confirmed positive for 
Equine Herpesvirus Myeloencephalopathy. The mare was removed from the 
property and placed in isolation and quarantined. CDFA is investigating to 
identify exposed horses which will be monitored for clinical signs and 
temperatures taken twice daily. Any horse displaying a fever or compatible 
clinical signs will be tested. CDFA will continue to monitor the situation 
and post new information as it becomes available.

Invitation to Preview Unique Proposal for SDC Land

You are invited to attend a presentation of the CEPEC plan for the land surrounding the Sonoma Developmental Center. The proposal of the California Equestrian Park and Event Center (CEPEC) will preserve and maintain open space for hiking, horse riding, and wildlife, and create self-sustaining revenue. It will provide safe recreational venues, education, and exhibits of local wildlife, as well as the history of Sonoma County’s equines and the SDC. The CEPEC proposal is based on input from hundreds of Sonoma County residents and organizations and has been submitted to the State of California.

The presentation will take place on *Monday, May 21, at 6:30* pm at the Dunbar School Auditorium, *11700 Dunbar Rd, Glen Ellen*. Several speakers will describe the history of the project, community participation, its services and facilities, and how its objectives will be reached.
